Opal Secrets Contest Winners and Featured Stories
The eye is the jewel of the body – Henry David Thoreau. The quest for younger and more refreshed looking eyes is not a new one. Tips and tricks have been passed down for generations and new technologies have been created to answer the need.
One such technology and the jewel to the Clarisonic family, is the Opal. The Opal Sonic Infusion System uses proven sonic technology to apply eye serum better than manual application. In just one minute, the Opal provides more than 7500 gentle micro-massages to instantly hydrate, smooth and brighten the eyes.
We asked our fans to share their secrets to keeping their eyes hydrated whether they used the Opal or not. We got some amazing stories; we are sharing three with you here and have ten that have won our Opal Secret contest. Congratulations to all of our winners!
Featured Opal Secret stories:
“Redneck” Sonic Regimen
Well, I don’t own a Clarisonic Opal so here’s what I do instead…and don’t laugh… I use the back side of my Sonic toothbrush to help apply my night serum, (different brush head of course). I realize that this is no comparison to the Clarisonic Opal but I’m using what I’ve got because I know how beneficial it is. So until I get the real thing, this is what I do.
Men’s eye remedy
I am a guy who takes pride in his appearance. Recently I have been noticing my eyes have look tired and puffy (probably the increased stress of trying to run my live like a crazy person through work and school, trying to do the work of five people all by myself, deffinately not recommended..) I started to look for a solution. Your eyes can easily be the first thing someone will notice about you and they are usually first to show any signs of aging!… So I set out for a way to cure. To tackle the puffiness I began using a de puffing eye gel. I started with the Body Shop’s Eye Depuffer. It worked wonders I would notice my eyes significantly decreasing in puffiness. Much of it was extra water under the eye lids so at times I looked and still looks like I am crying, not to say my eyes get red and I make an ugly face, anyway I think you get the picture. My next step was to find a eye cream to help keep my eyes bright and awake and get rid of that oh so chic I just got punched in the eye look. I ended choosing Clique’s all about the eye, it was very feminine but the sales associate at Sephora helped me realize that the skin around a woman’s eye and around a mens eye really aren’t all that different. After that? poof those dark circles were minimized. My eyes were back in business and I am glad I took that step… lets be honest who wants to look punched and puffy?
The BEST under eye trick
When I was in college I worked at a makeup counter at the mall. One of my co-workers was an amazing makeup artist that had just moved from NYC so I was so excited to learn his tips and tricks. The one thing that he told me that I remember to this day and always share with people is……when applying under eye cream ALWAYS apply it and blend it from the outside of your eye inwards towards your nose. Why you ask? Well….the fine lines and crows feet that form tend to start out closer to the inner corners of your eye and expand outwards so everytime you put on under eye cream you want to be lightly tapping and blending the cream in the opposite direction they form to make sure the product really gets in there. If you put on under eye cream twice a day that is a lot of pulling and dabbing on the under eye area over time so it’s better to be smoothing it on in the opposite direction that they form. I swear this works! I used to have one line in particular that was fairly deep and I would notice it when I would get tan because it would be white from squinting while I was out in the sun. Since I started applying under eye cream from the outside of my eye towards the inside my lines have completely and very noticeably smoothed out! For some reason I had always put under eye cream on from the inside out which I know a lot us you do becuase it seems more natural to apply it this way but it’s the complete opposite of what you want to do. I love sharing this trick with people and I swear you will notice a difference if you try it!

How do I get Vitamin D if I’m supposed to stay out of the sun?
The sun provides us with vitamin D, an essential for our body. However, we have been told time and time again to stay out of the sun. We know the sun causes skin damage that could lead to cancer and premature wrinkles so how do you get adequate Vitamin D without sun damage?
Short amounts of time in the sun are recommended for vitamin D. However, be sure to use an SPF on sensitive areas such as the face, neck and chest. Exposing your arms and legs to the sun for 15 minutes for 3-4 times a week is all you really need to avoid sun damage and get enough vitamin D.
Efficient vitamin D is essential for our bodies. A lack of vitamin D can cause bone health issues, immune disorders, and possibly cancer. However, swapping out one medical condition for another is never ideal. Protect yourself from the sun by trying to remember to use an SPF and only get limited exposure to the sun.
We realize sun exposure in the winter months can be hard to come by in some parts of the world (Especially for us in Washington).Talk to your doctor to make sure you are getting the right dose of vitamin D and if not, perhaps discuss supplements.

Summer Sun Protection
Is it beach and pool season already?
To keep your skin looking young, fresh, and healthy this summer we at Clarisonic, have come up with some helpful tips. Our number one suggestion, protect your skin from the sun.
The sun emits harmful UV rays that can cause wrinkles and increase your chances of getting melanoma. Consider these quick and easy things you can do to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy while having fun in the sun.
- The sun’s rays during the summer months can be stronger depending on the altitude and latitude of your location. In general, the sun is the most powerful between 10:00am and 4:00pm. Keep this in mind when hitting the beach or lounging by the pool.
- Keep a bottle of sun screen handy, ideally with an SPF of 30 or higher. Studies have shown that sunscreen that contains titanium oxide and zinc oxide may work better than others. Even on a cloudy day, the sun’s rays can affect your skin. Get in the habit of using a moisturizer with an SPF.
- Wear a cute floppy hat, to shade your face and upper body where you skin is sensitive. If you’re an avid hiker or jogger, switch to a baseball hat.
- The best sun protective clothing is dark and tightly woven. A plain, white t-shirt will do little to protect your skin. If possible, opt for a shady spot or carry a sun umbrella with you to protect your skin.
What you do during the summer months to protect your skin?

Skin Care Essentials: Take a vacation, but not from your skincare
When you take a break from work to go on vacation make sure you don’t neglect your skin while you are gone. Packing these two essentials will help make your vacation better and take some of the stress out of coming home.
1. Your favorite moisturizer
Dry skin may make your entire vacation more on edge. But a little lotion applied generously can make you feel a lot better whether your vacation was in a hot or a cold place it will always make your day!
2. Sun screen, sun screen, sun screen.
We can’t say it enough! At least SPF 30 is necessary for keeping your skin protected from harmful effects over time. Be sure to apply it half an hour before you plan to go out into the sun.
You may not notice it right away but your skin will thank you in the long run!
What are two items you can’t travel without? We’d love to hear your thoughts. Share with us!

Dry Skin: Remedies and Prevention Suggestions
Dry skin is a struggle for many people, especially during the summer months. Summer can be tough on skin with applications of sunscreen, chlorine from pools and direct sunlight. If you struggle with dry skin in the summer, or year round, we have a few tips to help soothe and prevent dry skin.
Moisturize on a daily basis
Find a moisturizer that you like and apply it on a daily basis.Avoid scalding hot water in your bath and shower
Although the hot water warms you up it can be very harsh on your skin. Try lowering the temperature in the bath and shower. Another great way to avoid dry skin is to include milk powder or oatmeal in the bath instead of using bubble bath. When you get out of the tub, pat dry
Avoid rubbing after the bath or shower. Once you are towel dried be sure to apply a good body moisturizer to keep moisture locked inside throughout the day.Avoid itchy clothing
If you are prone to dry skin avoid wearing clothing that includes fabrics that you find itchy or irritatingCleanse with your Clarisonic Skin Care System
Cleansing with your face and body with the Clarisonic Skin Care System, can help reduce dry skin patches and leave your skin looking and feeling healthier. Be sure to replace your brush heads every three months for optimum cleansing.NOTE: Dry skin can be a result of a more complicated skin condition so be sure to consult your doctor if your symptoms worsen.
