Knowing your skin type is necessary when making the right decision about which Clarisonic brush head to choose for your Sonic Skin Cleansing System.

We offer a variety of brush heads for the face: delicate, sensitive, normal, deep pore, and the super soft acne brush.

To make choosing between them a little easier, we’ve put together some information regarding different skin types and their brush head matches. They are sure to give you a glowing complexion!

Normal skin – If your skin has an even tone and texture, and is naturally moisturized without looking too dry or oily, you were blessed with normal skin type. Normal skin is the least problematic type and is characterized by small pores. This type is best paired with our normal brush head.

Dry skin – Dry skin can feel tight and itchy, as well as show some visible flaking. It is often delicate, easily irritated, and has a matte appearance. We recommend that you start with the sensitive brush head. If you also have rosacea or acne, try either the delicate or acne brush heads.

Oily skin – Oily skin has a shiny appearance and is usually thicker, firmer, and less sensitive than the other skin types. Individuals with this skin type have enlarged pores and are more susceptible to recurring clogged pores, blackheads, whiteheads, and blemishes. But not to worry, our deep pore brush head is ideal for cleansing oily skin, large pores or hard to reach areas of the face, such as around the nose.

Combination skin – Combination skin is a blend of both oily and dry skin. If you have combination skin, you’ll find that the oils are mostly concentrated on the T-zone, while the cheeks remain dry. This skin type varies quite a bit – so to determine which brush head is right for you, give our acne brush head a try. Extra-plush bristle gradation helps to provide ultra-gentle cleansing for sensitive and acne-prone skin.

Sensitive skin – This skin type tends to be very dry, itchy, feel tight, and can easily become inflamed or irritated by external influences. Sensitive skin can be dry, normal, or oily and is characterized by delicacy. We think our ultra-gentle delicate brush head will be perfect for your sensitive skin!

Does the brush head you’re currently using match your skin type?

The change in seasons can be rough on your skin. The cold weather strips moisture from your skin generally causing you to alter your normal skincare routine. For example, the eye area is especially delicate and thin, needing extra attention during the colder months. Here are some tips to help keep your skin fresh throughout the winter.

Use a Moisturizer with Sunscreen

Although it might be overcast and rainy, don’t abandon your daily moisturizer with sunscreen. Apply the moisturizer in the morning and night immediately after cleansing to lock the moisture in and protect you from winter glaze.

Eliminate Products Containing Alcohol

Alcohol is drying to the skin. If your toner or any other products contain alcohol, save them for a warmer season.

Avoid Hot Baths and Showers

With the cold temperatures, a hot bath or shower sounds fabulous but little do you know, the hot water strips the skin of its natural moisture. Opt for a warm shower to keep your skin hydrated.

Use a Humidifier

The heater is generally on during these colder months which can be very drying. Use a humidifier to restore moisture to the air.

Extra Care for Your Eyes

The skin around your eyes is more delicate and thin than the rest of your face. Be sure to use an eye cream or serum to lock in moisture and for extra care, check out the Clarisonic Opal Infusion System.

Use Lip Balm with Sunscreen

You may be tempted to lick your chapped lips but you are only worsening their condition. Keep a lip balm with sunscreen on hand to use when your lips start to feel dry.

Dress in Layers

Your skin will compensate if you are too hot or too cold so dress in layers to be able to add and remove pieces accordingly depending on your body temperature.

Take Care of Your Hands and Feet

Hands and feet tend to be extra dry during the winter months. Moisturize often and especially after increased washing of your hands during the cold and flu season.

The winter can be tough on your skin, but with care and attention, you can prevent dry skin and blotchiness. These are some tips we swear by during the winter, but we would love to hear your suggestions!

Do you struggle with dry skin during the summer months? We have a few tips to help soothe and prevent dry skin. Follow the post link for more information on how to avoid the itch and irritation that comes with dry skin.

Dry skin is a struggle for many people, especially during the summer months. Summer can be tough on skin with applications of sunscreen, chlorine from pools and direct sunlight. If you struggle with dry skin in the summer, or year round, we have a few tips to help soothe and prevent dry skin.

Moisturize on a daily basis
Find a moisturizer that you like and apply it on a daily basis.

Avoid scalding hot water in your bath and shower
Although the hot water warms you up it can be very harsh on your skin. Try lowering the temperature in the bath and shower. Another great way to avoid dry skin is to include milk powder or oatmeal in the bath instead of using bubble bath.

When you get out of the tub, pat dry
Avoid rubbing after the bath or shower. Once you are towel dried be sure to apply a good body moisturizer to keep moisture locked inside throughout the day.

Avoid itchy clothing
If you are prone to dry skin avoid wearing clothing that includes fabrics that you find itchy or irritating

Cleanse with your Clarisonic Skin Care System
Cleansing with your face and body with the Clarisonic Skin Care System, can help reduce dry skin patches and leave your skin looking and feeling healthier. Be sure to replace your brush heads every three months for optimum cleansing.

NOTE: Dry skin can be a result of a more complicated skin condition so be sure to consult your doctor if your symptoms worsen.

Do you have any at-home or best practices for avoiding dry skin? We’d love to hear them. Share with us!
