Understanding Your Skin: What is Eczema?
Eczema is a skin condition that involves scaly and itchy rashes. Other symptoms can include blistering, leathery skin, intense itching, a rash and skin coloring including more or less coloring and redness.
Typically eczema is caused by hypersensitivity in the skin which can lead to itchy and scaly skin that in the long-term can cause irritation. Eczema tends to be hereditary. Those prone to eczema should be cautious of dry skin, exposure to environmental irritants and water, stress and temperature changes.
Fortunately, depending on the stage of eczema it can be treated. Treatments can include but are not limited to moisturizers, soaps, creams, ointments and oral prescription medications.
